Benefits Of Meditation
It’s hard living in the modern world. Our everyday worries include horrible traffic and pollution, stress everywhere from our homes to our offices and a dozen or so other irritants caused by people we meet in the course of living.
We work longer hours, consume less healthy food and hardly take any exercise. Some of us even indulge in cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. Others have to bear with dysfunctional friends or families. And all of this has to take their toll on us.
No wonder the numbers for stroke and heart attack victims are rising every year. There are no studies that indicate this for sure, but I am fairly certain that the hectic pace and stress of our modern lifestyles have caused innumerable life-threatening diseases.
Meanwhile, mental and physical health costs are skyrocketing. We need relief but sometimes it costs too much. It’s about time we tried meditation.
Meditation is ideal for everyone, especially for those with hectic and stressful lifestyles. The book defines meditation as an engagement in contemplation, especially that which is spiritual, religious or devotional in nature. It teaches us to reflect upon our day and to find happiness within ourselves. Through meditation, we can keep our mind fit, relieve stress and promote overall good health.
The mind operates through brainwaves whose activity is altered as we go through different tasks and emotions throughout our day. According to modern alternative medicine, these brain waves produce energy that is the main medium through which our central nervous system communicates with our bodies.
Our mind has varying levels of operation, known as brainwaves. As we pass through the different stages of our day, we enter various stages of brain wave activity. The brain uses this tool as one way to allow us time to rest our busy mind and assess all the vital pieces of information we’ve received. Therefore, to ease the mind is to ease the body. Breathing techniques, music, various aromas and scents as well as candle therapy are different ways to enhance meditation and ease the mind.
Through continued meditation, we become more aware of ourselves and our feelings. We realize that there is more to us than just physical activity. We become aware of certain thoughts that previously could not reach our awareness because of the hustle and bustle of our days.
There is no hard and fast rule about meditation – you don’t have to sit in a lotus position or murmur certain sounds – as long as you take a relaxed and thorough examination of your mind and try to feel the energy of those brain waves flowing through you.
